Asheville, Here I Come!

Posted by on Mar 6, 2016 in PR, Travel | 7 comments

“This is my last Ohio winter.” Six words I’ve bitterly uttered every January for the past, oh, four years or so. This year, I meant it. I’m packing up and heading South… y’all. In less than one month, this Midwest girl is heading to the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. Where there are countless trails, just waiting for me to run them. And walk/hike/bike them. Also known as one of the best foodie and music cities in the country. Hello, Beer City USA. Oh, and I’ll be approximately 3,000 steps from the Blue Ridge Parkway. My little...

Girls on the Run Fall 5K & Why I’m A Coach

Posted by on Nov 15, 2015 in Fitness, Giving Back, PR | 0 comments

This Saturday was the Girls on the Run of Franklin County fall 5K, which is the event that my small-but-mighty team of eight little ladies trained for the past 10 weeks. The girls showed up on a chilly morning in downtown at Columbus Commons bundled in coats, scarves and gloves, which were quickly shed as the sun came out and the start time neared. For a few of them, this was their first 5K, and they were nervous. “Are you ready for this?” I asked the first girl to arrive at our meeting spot, among 1,400+ girls from the 60+ other Girls on the...

4 Days in Miami {A BlogHer Food Recap}

Posted by on Jun 2, 2014 in Fitness, PR, Travel | 7 comments

Sometimes, work takes me to some pretty cool places. Take, for example, Miami. Two weeks ago, I headed to the Sunshine State to attend the BlogHer Food conference (very willingly, I might add). It may have been work, but, mostly, it felt like play. I think it’s that point when you can’t decipher between work and fun when it’s safe to admit, “Man, I kind of love my job.” And I do. Come on. It’s not every day you get to spend three days hanging out with 500 amazing food bloggers from across the world, many of...

5 Tips for Successful Facebook Ads

Posted by on May 30, 2014 in PR | 0 comments

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked, “Do Facebook ads actually work?” The short answer is “yes,” but here is where I’d add a footnote. They work IF built, targeted and launched correctly. Not what you wanted to hear? Well, don’t give up on mastering the art of Facebook ads just yet. A couple of weeks ago, as you may remember, I led a session at BlogHer Food in Miami on social media advertising for food bloggers (a full transcript is available here). In preparation for it, I surveyed...

I am so excited to head to Miami tonight for the BlogHer Food conference. Not only do I get to spend a few days catching up with some of the best food bloggers on the planet (don’t you think I’m exaggerating, either!), eat and drink incredible food and beverages for four days, hang out with some of my favorite clients AND soak up some sunshine, but I also have been invited by BlogHer to lead a session on Saturday morning on how food bloggers may benefit from using social media advertising. Now, let me be the first to say that I...

TGIF-Files: April 11

Posted by on Apr 11, 2014 in Fitness, Giving Back, PR | 0 comments

Welcome to the first edition of TGIF-Files, where I’m going to share five things I’m loving; one for each day of the week. 1. Kendra’s Six-Pack Challenge. I just did this ab workout again during Kendra’s Body Blast class today at lunchtime, and my abs are definitely feeling it. Kendra, by the way, is my favorite trainer at my gym, the Arena District Athletic Club. Her classes are always different and challenging, and she will show you what you’re doing wrong, which is hugely helpful. Anyway, this killer ab...

10 Digital & Social Media Tools I’m Loving Right Now

Posted by on Mar 31, 2014 in PR | 0 comments

What do you get when you put 25 social media pros in a room and ask them to take a few minutes and write down their favorite digital tools? A whole bunch of amazing ideas, that’s what. As I mentioned a few days ago, I attended a Social Media Roundtable last week in Chicago, hosted by Ragan Communications. It was perfect timing because I’ve felt lately as if my relationships with my steady collection of digital tools and resources has hit a rut. Well, after getting more than a few ideas for spicing things up through picking the...

Ragan Social Media Roundtable: Day 1

Posted by on Mar 29, 2014 in PR | 0 comments

For the past two days, I’ve been fully immersed in all things social media. As in, way more than I am on a regular day. I’m in Chicago for a social media roundtable event hosted by Mark Ragan, CEO at Ragan Communications. Ragan is, of course, the publisher of one of my go-to PR publications, PR Daily. The roundtable has brought together about 25 social media pros from across the country who work in a variety of industries and settings- from healthcare to financial to agency (like me). Some are completely devoted to managing social...
