Girls on the Run Fall 5K & Why I’m A Coach

Posted by on Nov 15, 2015 in Fitness, Giving Back, PR | 0 comments

This Saturday was the Girls on the Run of Franklin County fall 5K, which is the event that my small-but-mighty team of eight little ladies trained for the past 10 weeks. The girls showed up on a chilly morning in downtown at Columbus Commons bundled in coats, scarves and gloves, which were quickly shed as the sun came out and the start time neared. For a few of them, this was their first 5K, and they were nervous. “Are you ready for this?” I asked the first girl to arrive at our meeting spot, among 1,400+ girls from the 60+ other Girls on the...

On Mother’s Day, #BringBackOurGirls by Forwarding Girls’ Education

Sunday is Mother’s Day, when we honor one of the most important and influential women in our lives: Our moms. It’s easy to take for granted everything that moms do, from the time we’re born to well into our adult lives. They put up with so much and yet, somehow, still manage to find a place in their hearts for us, even those of us colicky babies, who screamed our way into the world, kept it up for pretty much a solid year and then reverted back to being loud pains during our teenage years. Her classes are always different and challenging, and she will show you what you’re doing wrong, which is hugely helpful. Anyway, this killer ab...

The Lunafest traveling film festival made a stop in Columbus today, and tickets raised enough to provide shoes for ALL of the girls at one local Girls on the Run site! Also, the nine films chosen for this year were absolutely fabulous. I left inspired and wanting to go home and re-watch all of them again. So, what’s Lunafest? Well, it’s a film festival of nine award-winning short films by, for and about women, established in 2000 by LUNA (the makers of those super tasty women’s nutrition bars!). The films selected for 2014,...

Healthy Habits + A Super Smoothie

So, I really think we only have two kinds of weather in Central Ohio: Snow and rain. If it’s not one the past few months, it’s the other. Tonight, Mother Nature was generous enough to quit it with the precipitation for about 1.5 hours, which was just enough for us to hold Girls on the Run outside. Thank goodness because, after a day of being cooped up in school, my 15 girls have enough energy to knock down the walls of a room, especially on a quiet university campus. The rain all afternoon and warmer temps meant the worms were...
